Miner track team finishes weekend at Principia with two more wins

ELSAH, Ill. – Missouri S&T's men's track & field team added two more wins to its docket for the weekend as it finished with six event wins over the two days of competition at the Principia Relays.

Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) recorded one of the victories in the shot put with a throw of 57-8½, just barely off his season best in the event and led a group of five Miners that took the first six spots in the final results.  Tyler Marchert (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) was third with a mark of 48-6, while Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) and Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) tying for fourth at 47-5 and Matthew Hoffman (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) finishing sixth at 44-3½.

Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) also won an event for the second straight day as he took the 300-meter dash in 35.75 seconds; the Miners had the top three finishers in that event as well as Sam Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) was second in 36.20 and Michael Pate (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) placed third in 36.28.

Wright recorded a second place showing in the 60-meter hurdles as he posted a time of 8.66 seconds, as did Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) in the mile with his time of 4:18.27, Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) in the 3,000-meters in 8:53.02 and Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) in the heptathlon as he had a score of 4,458 points in the seven-event competition.

Paulvin Horton (Raleigh, NC/Garner), who won the high jump on Friday, finished third in the triple jump Saturday as he had a leap of 44-11.  S&T also got a third place finish from Daniel Garrison (Liberty, MO/Liberty) in the mile in 4:22.95, while Samuel Schmidt was fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05 seconds in the finals as was Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves) in the mile in 4:23.13, Samuel Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in the 3,000-meters in 9:18.76 and Dawson Shearer in the heptathlon with 4,375 points.

Tristan Jones (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 41-7¼ and Joshua Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) also had a fifth place showing with his time of 9:29.15 in the 3,000-meters.  S&T's 4x800-meter relay team of Kael Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill), Braden Stillmaker (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill), Ashton Ventura (Joplin, MO/Joplin) and Levi Frisbee also finished fifth as that group recorded a time of 8:47.53.

The Miners also had a fifth place finish from Caleb Craft (Jackson, MO/Jackson) in the heptathlon with 4,094 points, while Kamden Lockwood (Herscher, IL/Herscher) was right behind him with 4,064.  S&T got a seventh place showing from Noah Richardson (Hillsboro, MO/Grandview) in the triple jump at 40-2¼ and from Jacob Meyers (Lake St. Louis, MO/Homeschooled) in the 3,000-meters in 9:46.47.

Missouri S&T will head to the Chicago suburbs on Friday to compete at the Lewis Invitational in Romeoville, Ill.
