ROLLA, Mo. - The S&T women's basketball team will return to Gibson Arena this Thursday to host Truman State at 5:30 p.m., before heading back on the road again as it visits Quincy for a Saturday contest at 1 p.m to continue its Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule.
Thursday's game has been designated as S&T's "Whiteout Game", with fans being encouraged to wear white to the game at Gibson Arena.
The Miners (10-7, 6-3 GLVC) finished its three-game road trip at Illinois Springfield on Monday with a 77-65 victory, as three S&T players finished in double figures led by
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) led with 22 points. Rodriguez finished eight-of-14 from the field and got scoring help from
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) with 16 points and
Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) with 14 points. As a team, S&T scored 13 points on second chance opportunities, outrebounded UIS 32-24 and held the lead for nearly 35 minutes.
As a team, S&T ranks first in the GLVC with 680 total rebounds for an average of 40 per game while ranking second with 28.1 defensive rebounds per game while adding 48 blocks on the season.
Kerr ranks first in the GLVC with 24 blocks with an average of 1.4 blocks per game and second in rebounding with 9.5 per game, 6.2 of which are coming on the defensive side. In the scoring category, Kerr ranks eighth in the GLVC as she is averaging 15.2 points per game.
Rodriguez currently ranks first in the GLVC at the free throw line as she is shooting 90.2 percent from there while averaging 13.6 points per game, which ranks 13th among all GLVC players.
Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) ranks eighth in the conference with a mark of 38.8 percent shooting from behind the arc and has a team-high 26 three-point baskets.
ABOUT TRUMAN STATE:
The Bulldogs (12-5, 8-1 GLVC) enter this GLVC matchup on a four-game winning streak after defeating Southwest Baptist 70-64 Monday evening in Kirksville. In that decision, Ellie Weltha led Truman State with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Alex Fanning contributed 18 points and eight rebounds and Hannah Belanger added 15 points while collecting a steal.
Truman is led by the duo of Belanger and Weltha who rank among the best in the GLVC in various categories. Belanger leads the GLVC in scoring as she is averaging 21.6 points per game and has made 53 three-point field goals for a league-best 3.1 per game, while ranking fourth in shooting 44.5 percent from behind the arc.
Weltha ranks first in the GLVC in rebounding with an average of 10.1 rebounds per game and is second in field goal percentage at 56.7 percent from the field. Gracie Stugart is the conference leader in assists with 82, averaging 4.8 per game while ranking right below Rodriguez at 89.7 percent from the free throw line.
As a team, the Bulldogs rank first in the GLVC in rebounding as they are pulling down 4.9 more than their opponents, while sharing the league lead with Drury in field goal percentage at 46.5 percent shooting from the floor. Truman also ranks first in three-point field goals by averaging 9.7 per game.
ABOUT QUINCY:
The Hawks (7-10, 3-6) will travel to Missouri-St. Louis Thursday evening before the Miners' visit to Pepsi Arena Saturday afternoon. Quincy fell Monday night to GLVC leader and second-ranked Drury 87-49 in Quincy, as they were led by Emma Knipe with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Beth Matas-Martin added eight points and netted the only two three-point field goals for the Hawks.
Matas-Martin leads Quincy in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game while dishing out a team-high 60 assists and Sarah Nelson is averaging 12.3 points per game on 46.7 percent shooting from the field.
