ROLLA, Mo. - The Missouri S&T women's basketball team will begin a three-game road trip starting Thursday with a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup against Indianapolis at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time, before heading on to Lewis for a Saturday afternoon contest at 1 p.m., and concluding the weekend with a Monday matinee on Martin Luther King Day at Illinois Springfield that will begin at noon.
The Miners (8-6, 4-2 GLVC) concluded their five game homestand by defeating McKendree 80-78 Saturday afternoon in Gibson Arena. In that decision, four Miners ended up in double figures, led by
Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) with her season-high 21 points; 11 of her points came in the second period which included making three-of-six from behind the arc.
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) secured her eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) contributed 16 points and
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) finished with 10. Rodriguez and Finley had a team-high with three assists apiece. As a team, S&T scored 13 points from second chance opportunities while out rebounding the McKendree 35-31.
Kerr leads the Miners in scoring as the week begins with an average of 14.7 points per game and is second in the GLVC with her average of 9.6 rebounds per game. Kerr also ranks among the GLVC leaders in field goal percentage at 50.6 percent and in blocked shots as she has recorded a league-high 20 on the season. Rodriguez is averaging 13.9 points per game, while Keys moved back into the double figure ranks after her scoring performance on Saturday, moving up to 10.4 points per contest and a team-high 19 three-point baskets. S&T has four players with at least 20 assists on the season, led by
Michaela Davis' (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) 29.
Missouri S&T enters Thursday's game with wins in five of its last six contests.
ABOUT UINDY: The Greyhounds (7-7, 3-3 GLVC) dropped a 93-78 decision to third-ranked Drury in Springfield last Saturday afternoon to drop back to the .500 mark for the year. In that decision, three Greyhounds finished in double figures, led by Elana Wells with 23 points as she was seven-of-13 from the field. Liv Becker contributed 16 points while netting all three field goals and making all nine attempts from the free-throw line for a perfect shooting game and Ilani Williams-Harris added 13 points with three three-point baskets. UIndy's leading scorer for the season, Sadie Hill, was held to four points by the Lady Panthers. She comes into the game averaging 14.9 points per game on the season, while Wells is averaging 10.4.
ABOUT LEWIS: The Flyers (9-5, 5-1) enter the week on a seven-game winning streak and are coming off a 77-49 victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday in Bolivar. In that decision, three Flyers ended up in double figures, led by Lily Courier's 20 points as she was eight-of-nine from the field. Grace Hilber contributed 15 points and Kathryn Schmidt had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Hilber leads four Flyers in double figures with an average of 15.9 points per game and has made a team-high 29 three-point field goals, while Schmidt is scoring 15.1 points per game and leads Lewis with 7.7 rebounds per contest. Lewis will host Drury on Thursday before the Miners come into town Saturday afternoon.
ABOUT UIS: The Prairie Stars (1-13, 1-5 GLVC) picked up their first win of the season with a 84-71 victory at Rockhurst Saturday afternoon behind 21 points from Ariyah Douglas, the third-leading scorer in the GLVC with an average of 18.2 points per game. Douglas, who has made a team-high 32 three-point field goals, is one of five UIS players that is averaging in double figures in scoring on the season.
Liz Uhl, who contributed 19 points Saturday, is averaging 13.3 points per game on the year and Brianna Zajicek was just above her seasonal average of 12 points per game with 13 in the contest. UIS will host Southwest Baptist and Drury before hosting S&T on Monday.
