ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T took an early lead in Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference contest with Truman State at the S&T Soccer Field, but the Bulldogs scored three unanswered goals after that tally to take a 3-1 victory over the Miners.
The Miners (1-3-1, 0-1-1 GLVC) got a goal from
Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) in the 15
th minute as he headed in a corner kick from
Jimmy Sanchez (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central). However, the Bulldogs (3-1-1, 2-0 GLVC) answered in similar fashion about five minutes later when Jack Knust got to Sam Newton's corner kick in a crowd in front of the net and redirected the ball past S&T goalkeeper
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central).
Truman was awarded a penalty kick opportunity in the 35
th minute, which Andy Brennan converted to give the Bulldogs the lead for good. The Bulldogs added another goal on a redirected ball in the second half, which came from Mac Knudsen off a feed from Thomas Weber.
S&T had some good scoring chances after the third goal, as shots by
Grant Polman (Wentzville, MO/Holt) and
Mustafa Hasan (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) within three minutes of the goal were turned away by Justin Olwig, then the Truman keeper made a leaping stop of a shot by
Alonzo Edmond (Gastonia, NC/Gaston Day) in the 74
th minute.
Truman outshot the Miners 12-10 in the contest, as Joseph finished with four saves for S&T.
The Miners will head to Quincy Sunday for a 2:30 GLVC contest against the Hawks.
