ROLLA, Mo. – After batting on essentially even terms for 89 minutes Sunday evening, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team allowed a goal in the 90
th minute and dropped a 2-1 decision to Rogers State at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Matthew O'Reilly got a ball deep on S&T's end of the field off a pass from George Robinson and hit a shot to the far corner of the net past Miner goalkeeper
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) to break the tie with 58 seconds left on the clock.
Sunday's game – the start of which was delayed for three hours to weather in the area – saw both teams score goals in the first 10 minutes of play and then battle in a physical match throughout the evening.
Rogers State (2-0) got on the scoreboard just over two minutes into the contest when Josh Milla scored an unassisted goal, but the Miners knotted the score six and a half minutes later when Andreou Afxentis sent a long feed into the box that
Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) got a head on and put past RSU goalkeeper Declan Viljoen.
Joseph kept the game tied by making some key saves in the second half, including one on a point blank shot by Luke Morgan in the 82
nd minute; the rebound attempt was cleared off the end line by the S&T defense.
Rogers State outshot the Miners 12-10 in the contest, including by an 8-3 margin in the second half. Joseph was credited with five saves for the Miners.
Missouri S&T (1-1) will host Eastern New Mexico Saturday in a 7 p.m. match.
