Miner soccer team blanked by Greyhounds

ROLLA, Mo. – Following a scoreless first half, Eastern New Mexico scored four times in the second half and went on to defeat Missouri S&T's men's soccer team 4-0 Saturday night at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

The Miners (1-2) had two shots on net in the game, both coming in the second half which came on a head ball efforts by Zach Pendleton in the 58th minute and Nathan Weyrauch (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) in the 64th minute of action. S&T's best scoring chance of the night came in between those two shots, as Sam Bresette (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) had a shot go off the post in the 63rd minute.

Eastern New Mexico (1-2) got a goal on a rebound from Jaime Oliva nearly seven minutes into the second half to break the scoreless tie, then got goals from Alexandre Meres, Ben Sauerlander and Jo Martinetz later in the half.  The Greyhounds outshot the Miners 15-6 in the game.

Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) made four saves in the 59 minutes of action he saw on Saturday, while Luke Mirly (Jackson, MO/Jackson) played the final 31 minutes.

The contest, S&T's last non-conference affair prior to the start of Great Lakes Valley Conference play next weekend, saw the Miners use a sizeable number of players throughout the night and mainly non-starters for most of the second half.  Besides the two goalkeepers, S&T used 26 field players during the contest.

S&T will open its GLVC on Sept. 11 when it plays at 16th-ranked Illinois Springfield at 2:30 p.m.
