SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team opened its 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule by playing to a 1-1 tie with Illinois Springfield Sunday afternoon.
An own goal in the 24
th minute gave S&T the initial lead in the contest, as a UIS attempted to pass the ball back to goalkeeper Alberto Valsecchi but put it past him into the net. S&T took that one-goal lead into the intermission, but the Prairie Stars tied the game in the 52
nd minute when Lucas Harris hit a low shot into the corner past Miner goalkeeper
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central).
The Prairie Stars had a chance to take the lead in the 70
th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick, but
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) leaped to his right to turn away the shot by Luke Ridley to keep the game knotted at one.
UIS held a 14-7 advantage in shots in the game with the Miners getting two on goal, one apiece from
Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) and
Jason Jorgensen (Florence, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Santa Maria). Joseph finished the game with two saves in goal.
The Miners will host Truman State Friday at 7:30 p.m.
