ALLENDALE, Mich. – Missouri S&T's
Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) earned his second All-America honor of the 2021-22 season Saturday afternoon as he finished in seventh place in the shot put at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Grand Valley State University.
Swadley's top performance came when he shattered his own school record in the third round with a mark of 59-7¾, breaking the 18-meter mark outdoors for the first time in his S&T career and moving him into the lead at the end of the first flight.
He was in seventh place overall when the second flight concluded, then fouled on his fourth attempt and posted a mark of 57-5¾ in round five. However, he was guaranteed his All-America spot when Northwood's Zechariah Stickler fouled on his final throw to stay in ninth place in the standings.
Swadley, who finished sixth in the indoor shot put in March to earn his other All-America honor during the year, remained in seventh after recording his second-best mark of the competition in the final round of 58-7½. Davenport's Isaiah Schafer won the shot put with a mark of 65-3¼.
Jarett Johnson (Webb City, MO/Webb City), S&T's other men's competitor in action on the final day of the meet, finished 15
th in the javelin throw, while
Annmarie Tyson (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) did not clear a height in the women's high jump.
Johnson had a throw in the javelin of 206-feet on his first attempt, but could not better that mark in his next two tries as he posted throws of 187-5 and 199-3 in the second and third rounds. Southern Connecticut State's Jordan Davis captured the national title in the javelin with a mark of 238-feet.
After passing at the opening height of 5-3¾ -- where one of the 20 competitors fell out of contention – Tyson was unable to go over the bar at the second height of 5-5¾. The winner of the women's high jump was Concordia-St. Paul's Arika Robinson, who cleared 5-11½ to earn the national title.
