LAS VEGAS, Nev. – It was moving day as the Missouri S&T golf team took to the Desert Course at Legacy Golf Club for the final round of the Las Vegas Desert Classic hosted by Missouri-St. Louis. The Miners managed to move up the team leaderboard behind some strong individual showings to record a 13th place showing in a deep and very competitive field.
Carl Miltun (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field) (70-79-71=220) led the way for the Miners in round three, starting off red-hot as he recorded four holes under par in his first six to begin the day, including three birdies and an eagle on the 495-yard par-5 17th. Despite losing some ground over his final holes of the event, he still finished the weekend T31.
Colin Stolze (St. Louis, MO/Chaminade College Preparatory) (74-77-74=225) posted another strong round to match his day one effort, as he tallied a trio of birdies and recorded his second eagle of the weekend on the 594-yard par-5 4th to work a two-over 74 to close his event T31 along with Miltun.
Jeppe Thybo (Esbjerg, Denmark/Rybners Gymnasium) (77-80-73=230) rebounded from a challenging day two to fire a one-over 73 behind four birdies and 11 holes at par to finish T59.
Gustav Liljedahl (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) (78-77-76=231) again improved his score, turning in his best round of the event with a round of 76 that included five birdies, including a string of four-straight from the 4th to the 7th, to finish T63.
Fatt Hoe Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/SMK Seri Bintang Utara) (80-77-83=240) closed out his weekend with a pair of birdies and seven holes at par as he should a final round 83 to finish T88.
Host UMSL (282-297-294=873) held on to win the event by one stroke over #22 Florida Southern (293-295-286=874), who gained three spots on the day with a team score of -2 for the round but couldn't quite catch up to the Tritons. #6 Oklahoma Christian (291-295-290=876) took home third while #38 UIndy (293-298-287=878) and #13 Central Missouri (283-306-289=878) tied for fourth to round out the top of the leaderboard.
The next event on the calendar for the Miners is the Lindenwood Invitational March 21-22 at the Missouri Bluff GC.
