GREENSBORO, N.C. – Missouri S&T's swimming team added two more All-America performances and a school record Friday night as
Andy Huffman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) and S&T's 800-yard freestyle relay team recorded scoring performances on the third night of the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.
The higher finish came from the relay team of
Alec Davis (Joplin, MO/Joplin),
Connor Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe),
Alex Graham (Parker, TX/Homeschooled) and
Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) as it finished 10
th with a time of 6:33.51. Davis opened the race with a 1:39.66 leg, then Wiedemeier recorded the fastest leg when he went 1:36.23. Walters posted a closing leg of 1:37.58.
Huffman earned an All-America honor for the second straight night as he finished 14
th in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:47.46; he had his seasonal best time of 1:47.11 in the morning session.
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton), meanwhile, set a school record in the 100-yard backstroke but narrowly missed the finals in that event, as he finished with a time of 47.85 seconds that was just 0.11 off the last qualifying time. Clancy broke his own record of 47.91 that he set during the GLVC Championships last month.
Among the other Miners in competition on Friday,
Alex Graham (Parker, TX/Homeschooled) recorded a time of 4:30 flat in the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries, while
Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) finished in a time of 4:33.54.
Joshua Umrysh (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) had a time of 54.92 seconds in the preliminary round of the 100-yard breaststroke.
S&T remains in 18
th place through the third day of competition with 52 points scored thus far; the meet will conclude on Saturday evening.
