ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Missouri S&T ran into a hot-shooting Lindenwood team Monday night as the Lions sent the Miners to a 101-66 loss in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Hyland Arena.
Lindenwood (11-13, 7-9 GLVC) shot 56.9 percent from the field in the contest as it built a big lead in the opening half to send the Miners (10-13, 6-10 GLVC) to their fourth loss in their last five outings.
The Lions came out of the gate blazing, hitting 17 of their first 25 shots from the field and used that to build a 15-point lead by the 6:33 mark. Much of the damage was done by Kevin Caldwell, who had 16 of his 21 first half points in the first 13-plus minutes of play and Jacoby Ross, who had 14 points by halftime.
Lindenwood led by as much as 20 in the first half as it shot 61.1 percent and took a 15-point advantage to the locker room. S&T made just 41.9 percent of its shots in the opening half, but despite hitting six three-pointers to match the Lions in that department, made nine fewer shots from the field.
S&T cut the lead to 12 in the early moments of the second half when
Ryan Parker (Bloomington, IN/Bloomington South) knocked down a three-point shot at the 15:05, but the Lions responded with a 10-0 run to extend its lead back to 22 and never looked back. S&T only got as close as 15 the rest of the way.
While Caldwell, who finished with 23 points, did most of the damage in the first half, it was Ross who had a big second half as he scored 17 more points to end up with a game-high 31.
Dylan Singleton (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln) led three Miners in double figures with 18 points, while
Julien Smith (Fort Worth, TX/Northwest) closed with 12 and
Kaden Froebe (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln) added 10. S&T finished the contest shooting just 33.8 percent from the floor.
Missouri S&T will face Indianapolis on the road Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (Central time) to continue their week of play away from home.
