ROLLA, Mo. – After two game at home over the most recent weekend, the Missouri S&T women's basketball team will take to the road for one final week in the 2021-22 regular season with three games on deck starting Monday with a trip to St. Charles for a re-scheduled contest with Lindenwood before heading to the Hoosier State for games against Indianapolis Thursday and Southern Indiana Saturday to close out their GLVC road slate.
Missouri S&T (8-13, 5-10) split their weekend at home, knocking off McKendree by a score of 94-59 before being bested by UMSL 65-48.
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) and
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) were both held under 10 points against the Tritons but both also scored 18 points against the Bearcats to maintain their scoring averages at just over 14 and 13 points per game respectively. Rodriguez, who has shot nearly 40% from the floor this year also leads the team in assists with 43, just two ahead of
Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) (7.2 PPG), the team leader in steals with 38. Despite missing the first five games of the season, Kerr leads the team with 118 rebounds for an average of 7.4 per contest while also recording 20 blocks to join
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) (6.0 PPG, 4.2 RPG), the team and GLVC leader with 36 on the season, at the top of the conference in that category this season.
Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) (8.0 PPG), who had 10 points Saturday, is shooting .413 from the field this season and ranks second and third on the team in steals (25) and assists (39).
Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) (5.5 PPG) is also shooting .413 from the floor this season in her first full season of action since the 2018-19 season while
Jada Lindesmith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lutheran) (5.9 PPG) is tied with Keys with 39 assists on the season as well.
Lindenwood (9-12, 6-8) enters Monday looking for something to go their way as they have been on the wrong end of their last five contests with their last win coming January 27 at Southwest Baptist. The Lions played just once over the weekend and fell to Maryville 77-66 on the road. Julia Ruzevich (20.0 PPG, 11.4 RPG), Lindenwood's steals leader with 35, is one of three Lions averaging double-figures per game and is joined by Devin Fuhring (14.0 PPG), who leads the team with 50 assists, and Ellen McCorkle (10.7 PPG, 6.8 PPG), the team leader in blocks with 27. Ruzevich, who has 26 blocks, and McCorkle both rank in the top five in the GLVC in rejections this season. As a team, the Lions are shooting .435 from the field and have a rebounding margin of 7.4.
Indianapolis (9-13, 6-8) has opened the month of February with a 2-2 record and dropped a pair of games over the weekend to Rockhurst and Southwest Baptist after defeating Lindenwod and Truman State. Sadie Hill (12.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG), the team leader in blocks with 15, who missed the first game of the season between S&T and UIndy, leads the team in scoring and is joined in double-figures by Taylor Drury (12.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG). Elana Wells (9.5 PPG) leads the way with 23 steals while Mickey Sasson (7.0 PPG, 5.4 RPG) has 56 assists for the high water mark in that category.
Southern Indiana (18-4, 12-2) will be playing out their final games in the GLVC and Division II as a whole over the final weeks of the season, as it was announced last week that the Screaming Eagles will be joining the ranks of Division I for the 2022-23 academic year and will be joining the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). USI split over the weekend, losing at the hands of Drury before posting a 22-point win over SBU Sunday, but had won five-straight game prior to that. Hannah Haithcock (12.8 PPG, 4.7 RPG) is the team's leader in scoring followed closely by Meredith Raley (11.7 PPG, 5.3 RPG), sister of former Miner Maddie Raley and the team's leading rebounder and shot blocker with 13, and Emma DeHart (10.3 PPG), the assist and steal leader for USI with 46 and 38 respectively. As a unit, USI is shooting .431 from the floor from the season and is third in the GLVC from the free throw line, shooting .771.
Last season against Lindenwood, S&T dropped both contests to the Lions by scores of 87-65 and 80-72 and despite leading the all-time series 8-5, the Miners have not won in the series since 2012. In the first game of the season against UIndy, it went down to the wire in Rolla with the Greyhounds picking up a 76-74 win. Southern Indiana and Missouri S&T did not play during the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 protocols but the Screaming Eagles did win the last time the teams played in 2020 by a score of 79-70 and have won four-straight in the series, although S&T does lead all-time 13-8.
