PITTSBURG, Kan. – Missouri S&T's Hayes Pateidl (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) was part of two school record performances over the weekend and Annmarie Tyson (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) made an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the high jump to highlight the S&T efforts at the Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State University.

Patiedl broke a 17-year-old record in the mile as he posted a time of 4:14.02, then anchored S&T's distance medley relay team that included Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS), Michael Pate (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) and Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) that broke the previous record by over eight seconds with a time of 10:07.06.

Tyson made her provisional mark in the invitational high jump as she cleared 5-6½ as she finished eighth in that event, becoming the first member of the women's team this season to make a provisional mark.

Mitch Fairless (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) also improved his NCAA qualifying mark by going over the bar at 6-10¼ to finish second to record the highest finish by a Miner competitor at the meet.  S&T had two additional top eight finishes that came from Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard), who finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 55-0¾ and also took 12^th in the weight throw with a mark of 54-4 and Aaron Jones (Kansas City, MO/Ruskin), who posted an eighth place leap of 46-8 in his first triple jump competition of the season.

Nick Janke (Rolla, MO/Rolla) cleared 6-5½ to place 11^th in the invitational high jump, while Daniel McMurran (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University HS) finished 12^th in the open high jump with a clearance of 6-0¾ and Joseph Nickell (Nixa, MO/Nixa) was 12^th in the invitational pole vault as he cleared 15-1¾.  Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) was 14^th in the weight throw at 52-5.

Lofgren narrowly missed the school record in the 3,000-meters, posting a time of 8:37.78 that fell 0.23 seconds off the record mark.

The highest individual finish by a Miner on women's side was posted by Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva), who took third in the open pole vault as she cleared 10-10¼.  Jessica Rhoads (Holts Summit, MO/Jefferson City) placed 14^th in the weight throw with her mark of 48-5.

Missouri S&T's next competition will take place at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, which begin Feb. 25 in Indianapolis.
