ROLLA, Mo. – Jason Jorgensen (Florence, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Santa Maria), who led the Great Lakes Valley Conference in scoring during the conference portion of the 2022 season, was named today as the Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-league selection by the GLVC coaches.

Jorgensen was one of two Miners recognized on this year's all-conference team, as he was joined by third-team selection Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) on the squad.  They helped lead the Miners to their first berth in the GLVC Tournament since 2017, where they played to a 2-2 tie with top-seeded Maryville on Sunday before the Saints advanced by winning the penalty kick shootout.

He is the first Miner to earn the conference's Offensive Player of the Year award since S&T became a member of the GLVC in 2005.  He is the third member of the program to win a major award from the conference, following Pat McNamee, who was named as the league's Freshman of the year in 2008 and as the Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and Joe Ahearn, the GLVC Coach of the Year following the 2010 campaign.  It is also the second All-GLVC honor for Jorgensen in his S&T career, as he was named to the third team following the 2021 spring season.

During the 2022 season, Jorgensen posted 22 points on nine goals and four assists, averaging 1.29 points per game over S&T's 17-game season and the nine tallies came on just 14 shots on net.  Eight of those goals and all four assists came during the conference season, including two-goal outings against Drury, Missouri-St. Louis and Indianapolis, and he also scored in the GLVC Tournament game against Maryville.  His second goal against UIndy turned out to be the decisive goal in S&T's 3-2 win that clinched its tournament berth.

Over the Miners' last nine games of the season, when the Miners scored 22 times, Jorgensen had at least one point in six of those contests and had a goal in five of them.   He was selected as the GLVC's Player of the Week on Oct. 3 after a weekend in which he had a hand in all four goals scored by the Miners, which included the two-goal game against Drury.

Semlitsch finished the season with seven goals, which ranked for a tie for fifth in the GLVC, and scored in six different contests during the season.  He posted two goals in S&T's 3-0 road victory over McKendree that helped get the Miners into the GLVC Tournament and recorded six of his goals in conference competition.

In addition, Santiago Cervantes (Collierville, TN/Collierville) was named as the Miners' nominee for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award, which honors student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.

Missouri S&T finished 5-7-5 during the 2022 campaign and had a 4-4-4 mark in the GLVC.
