ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team posted the best time in each of the 11 events contested Friday evening and came away with a 138-53 win over Truman State at the S&T Pool.
The Miner successes began with a sweep of the top three spots in the 200-yard medley relay, led by the team of
Mark Cavanaugh (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista),
Andy Huffman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit),
Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) and
Cole Akal (Alton, IL/Alton) that won in a time of 1:34.16 and continued through the 400-yard freestyle relay, won by the quartet of Gabe Asevedo,
Connor Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe),
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton) and
Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) in 3:08.19.
In between the relays, the Miners got two wins apiece from
Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) as he won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:55.40 and 500-freestyle with a mark of 4:48.14,
Alec Davis (Joplin, MO/Joplin) in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.77 seconds and 100-freestyle in 47.76 seconds and from Huffman in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:56.92 and in the 200-yard breaststroke where he recorded the best time of 2:07.51.
The other individual event wins came from Clancy in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:53.79, Walters in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.84 and Baxter in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.59.
Second place showings were recorded by
Alex Graham (Parker, TX/Homeschooled) in the 1,000-freestyle in 9:59.11, Wiedemeier in the 200-freestyle in 1:44.01 and 100-freestyle in 48.04 seconds, Josh Umrysh in the 50-freestyle in 21.79 seconds,
Chris Sprenger (Shawnee, KS/Mill Valley) in the 200-IM in 1:59.81 and 200-breaststroke in 2:10.28,
Greg Dreisewerd (Ellisville, MO/MICDS) in the 200-butterfly in 1:56.86, Walters in the 200-backstroke in 1:55.67 and
Marcelo Busch (Sao Centrano Do Sui-Sp, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) in the 500-freestyle in 4:49.88.
The Miners also had six third place finishes on an individual basis --
Sam Weber (Portage, MI/Portage Central) in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:08.95, Asevedo in the 50-freestyle in 21.84 seconds,
Daniel Matlock (Peoria, IL/Richwoods) in the 200-butterfly in 2:01.75 and 200-breaststroke in 2:12.36, Cavanaugh in the 200-backstroke in 1:57.77 and Graham in the 500-free in 4:55.19.
Missouri S&T will take part in its last dual meet of the season next Friday against Drury in Springfield, Mo.
