ROLLA, Mo. – After seeing its five-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team will look to start a new winning streak as it opens a three-game road stretch Sunday by taking on Drury in Springfield, Mo., at 2:30 p.m.
The Miners saw the winning streak halted in a shutout loss to Rockhurst at the S&T Soccer Field, which dropped S&T to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The winning streak was the longest for the Miners in 10 seasons, but they will look to begin anew Sunday against a Panther squad that has won four straight times since losing its three contests of the year.
S&T opened the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Southwest Baptist, getting goals from
Mitch Mueller (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley),
Jimmy Sanchez (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central) and
Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole), its leading scorer on the year with two goals and two assists for six points.
Luan Barbosa (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio SESI) also has two goals on the season, while
Leyton Harper (Andover, KS/Central) has four points as well with a goal and two assists.
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) started both games in goal for the Miners over the weekend and recorded his second shutout of the year in Friday's win. He has a 1.33 goals against average in 270 minutes of playing time and has made 14 saves, while
Michael Sallee (Springfield, MO/Catholic) has 19 saves in 379 minutes to go with a 1.66 mark in the nets.
ABOUT DRURY: The Panthers are 4-3 overall but 4-0 in the GLVC heading into a Friday match against Maryville in Springfield. Since dropping their first three outings, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 17-1 during their four-game winning streak and 13-0 over the last two games.
Jamie O'Brien, who scored three times in a 7-0 victory Sunday over SBU, leads Drury and the GLVC with six goals on the season. Adem Hamdaoua has scored three times and has seven points on the year, while Jack Griffiths and Joshua Lewis-Evans have four points apiece with a goal and two assists. Yannick Lamers has played 504 minutes in goal and has a 0.89 goals against average with 15 saves.
The Miners bumped off the Panthers 1-0 in overtime last season, as
