CHOCTAW, MS- The Miners had a strong opening to their spring season bring home a 2nd place finish in the Dancing Rabbit Intercollegiate and getting four individuals placed in the top-15.
After sitting in third place through two rounds of play, the Miners were able to slide into second place after a tournament best 145 third round that helped them surpass host school Arkansas-Monticello and finish the tournament with a 766 team score.
Taylor Ornelas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) led the way for S&T coming in 4
th place with a 187 final score. She was able to shave four strokes off her first round score and came in with a 36 third round score to claim sole possession of fourth.
Lauren Allen (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis Catholic) was not far behind her with a 189 final score and a 7
th place finish while
Emilie Nguyen (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) and
Karson Kimsey (Sautee Nacoochee, Ga./White County) both got in to the top-15 in individuals with 193 and 197 final scores.
Anna Reisinger (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) rounded out the team with a 214 final score.
William Carey claimed the top team spot as well as first and second place in individual play. They shot a tournament low 297 in the second round and was able to keep their lead though the third round. Arkansas-Monticello claimed third place while Christian Brothers University and Union rounded out the remaining top five.
