ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team will open a three-game homestand with its only game of the week on Friday evening, when the Miners take on Drury University in a 7:30 p.m. Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The Miners picked up their first victory of the 2021 spring season last Friday when they rallied for a 2-1 win at Rockhurst, but dropped a 1-0 decision at Southwest Baptist on an own goal, leaving S&T at 1-2-1 on the season heading into Friday's clash with the 2-1 Panthers.
S&T came from behind to win the Rockhurst contest behind second half goals from
Dario Rossell (Madrid, Spain/IES Lazaro Cardenas) in the 57
th minute and
Luan Barbosa (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio SESI) in the 75
th minute. The Miners have scored three goals in their first four contests, with the third goal coming from
Paal Benum (Trondheim, Norway/Byaasen Videregaadende) in their Feb. 28 tie against William Jewell.
Michael Sallee (Springfield, MO/Catholic) has recorded a 0.71 goals against average with four saves thus far on the season, while
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) has a 1.33 mark in goal and has also made four saves. As a team, S&T has a goals against mark of 0.92 over its first four contests and has not allowed more than one goal in any game thus far.
Drury defeated Southwest Baptist in Bolivar in its only game last week as it got goals from Jamie O'Brien and Trevor Cairns in the first nine minutes of the contest and held on for the win. Jayd Hamdaoua leads the Panthers with two goals on the year, both of which came in Drury's season-opening win over William Jewell. The Panthers' loss came two days later to Rockhurst.
Yannick Lamers has gone the distance in all three games thus far and owns an 0.67 goals against average.
