ROLLA, MO- After playing just one game last week, the Miners will get back to multi-game weeks this week when they welcome Maryville and Lindenwood to Gibson Arena this Thursday and Saturday.
S&T's lone game last week welcomed the top-ranked Drury University Panthers after they had not played in a game in almost a month. While the Miners were able to hang with the Panthers for three quarters of play, DU's early 23-13 lead and 23 turnovers by S&T proved to be too much to come back from.
For the season,
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) has been the biggest force for the Miners offense with 16.9 points/game while
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) is shooting just over 51% from the field and bringing in 14.9 points/game while grabbing a team best 10.2 rebounds.
Maryville:
The Saints (7-8, 7-8 GLVC) come into Thursday's contest off back-to-back losses to SouthÂwest Baptist and top-ranked Drury University. MU's 100-97 2OT loss to SBU came down to the wire. The Bearcats were able to push their lead out to five with a jumper and a three-pointer from Sydney Bandy that would hold through 52 seconds of play.
In the team's loss to the Panthers, Karlee Feldman and Donnetta Colbert came off the bench to lead the Saints with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while the team was forced into 27 turnovers over the 40-minute span.
For the season, Antoinette Mussorici leads Maryville with 17.8 points/game while Jayda Jansen is right behind her with 17.5 per game. Taylor Kirby, who is third on the team in scoring, and Karlee Feldman have been the leading forces on the boards for the Saints with 5.8 and 5.9 rebounds/game.
Earlier this season when the Miners and Saints met, S&T looked at 11 turnovers in the first half that lead to 10 unanswered points for Maryville. While the Miners made a comeback in the second half, getting within eight of the Saints after looking at a 23-point deficit in the third quarter, S&T suffered the 83-71 loss.
Like the last couple of years, the Saints have not been able to control
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy); she scored a team best 22 points on 10-14 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds while blocking two shots and picking up three steals.
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) and
Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) also had big numbers for the Miners: Rodriguez added in 20 points while Durk, who went 3-3 from behind the arc, chipped in 18 points.
Lindenwood:
The Lions are coming off an 83-74 win over Illinois Springfield on Tuesday night that saw 25 and 24-point performances from Ellen McCorkle and Devin Fuhring.
After looking at just a three-point lead heading into halftime and having difficulties stopping Lauren Ladowski from the Prairie Stars, Lindenwood got a 17-point second half from McCorkle and forced Illinois Springfield into nine turnovers to help them to the 83-74 win.
For the season, Julia Ruzevich leads the team with 19.2 points/game and 10.2 rebounds while Devin Fuhring is adding in 18 points per game.
Back in December when the Lions and Miners met, Lindenwood used a big offensive push in the first quarter to take an early 21-9 lead. While S&T was able to get within seven of LU by halftime, the Lions shot lights out in the second half and took the 87-65 win.
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones),
Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township), and
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) led the way for the Miners offensively with 19, 18, and 16 points, respectively.
The Lions will pay a visit to Springfield, Mo. on Thursday to face off against Drury before coming to Gibson Arena on Saturday afternoon.
