CASEYVILLE, ILL.- The women's golf team picked up a 6
th place finish at the Bearcat Intercollegiate while
Lauren Allen (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis Catholic) and
Emilie Nguyen (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) finished in the top-20 for individuals.
Through the first round, S&T found themselves in 6
th place with a 322 team score.
Lauren Allen (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis Catholic), who led the team with a 75 opening round score, sat in 7
th place and just five strokes behind leader Josefina Haupt of Lindenwood.
Emilie Nguyen (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) found herself in the top-20 for individuals in a four-way tie for 12
th place at six over par.
Karson Kimsey (Sautee Nacoochee, Ga./White County),
Taylor Ornelas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna), and
Sami Swinfard (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) rounded out the round with scores of 83, 86, and 93, respectively.
In round two,
Taylor Ornelas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) and
Sami Swinfard (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) jumped significantly in the standings; Ornelas shaved off six strokes from her round one score to move up to 26
th place while Swinfard recorded the programs second best improvement score from round one to round two after cutting off 15 strokes to give her a 171 score.
S&T finished out the third round with a 314 team score that saw
Taylor Ornelas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) shoot her best round of the tournament and move up to a 21
st place finish.
Lauren Allen (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis Catholic) and
Emilie Nguyen (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) both picked up a top-20 finish with 229 and 230 final scores, respectively, while finishing 13 and 14 over par.
Karson Kimsey (Sautee Nacoochee, Ga./White County) and
Sami Swinfard (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) rounded out the remaining Miners with final scores of 251 and 256.
McKenna Montgomery from Lindenwood took the top individual spot at three over par while Carmen Villaverde from Maryville and Kasey Kane from Lewis took second and third place.
Lindenwood University took the top team spot with a 906 final score after recording a tournament best 295 third round. Maryville, Illinois Springfield, Missouri-St. Louis, and McKendree rounded out the remaining top-five teams.
