ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team closed its 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference season last October at Maryville University and on Sunday, returns to that same location to begin the 2019 conference slate as it faces the Saints in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
The Miners split their first two games of the new campaign over the weekend, knocking off Ouachita Baptist 2-1 in overtime before falling 3-1 Sunday to 22
nd-ranked Northeastern State at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. On Sunday, S&T will take on a Maryville squad that already has three wins under its belt and is currently ranked 19

ABOUT MISSOURI S&T: The Miners were just over a minute away from a shutout victory in their season opener Friday against Ouachita Baptist before a late Tiger goal sent the contest into overtime, but
Paal Benum (Trondheim, Norway/Byaasen Videregaadende) scored 5:42 into the extra period to give S&T the victory.
S&T also got a goal from freshman
Bertram Gjelfort (Frederiksberg, Denmark/Falkonergaarden) in the game as it won its season opener for the second time in three seasons. However, the Miners were unable to sweep the weekend as Northeastern State scored twice in the first half and held off S&T's second half rally effort to hand the Miners their first loss of the year.
Tyler Sivadon (Spring, TX/Concordia Lutheran) scored for the Miners in the second half to cut the lead to one and S&T continued to put pressure on the RiverHawks in the effort to get the equalizer, which included 11 corner kick chances in the second half. However, with under a minute to play, a clearing pass led to a breakaway and the game-clinching goal for NSU.
Nick Posey (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) started in goal in both games for S&T and takes a 1.94 goals against average into Sunday's contest.
ABOUT MARYVILLE: The 19
th-ranked Saints will bring a 3-0 record into play this weekend and are fresh off a 3-0 neutral site win Wednesday over 12
th-ranked Fort Hays State. Maryville got goals from Mirsa Hasecic, Braden Johnson and Grady Schliepsiek, while goalkeeper Liam Walraven recorded his first shutout of the season.
The Saints have outscored their opponents 8-2 in their first three contests and Johnson has three of those tallies to lead Maryville in scoring. On the defensive side, Walraven has a 0.67 goals against average as opposing teams have only four shots on net over those three games.
