ROLLA, Mo. – For the second consecutive year, Missouri S&T put a record number of its student-athletes on the GEICO Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honor roll for the 2018-19 season, as 188 of its members earned the honors for their work in the classroom.
S&T's 188 members were part of a group totaling 2,769 student-athletes from the 14 GLVC institutions, the football teams from Lincoln University and Southwest Baptist University, who were associate members of the conference in that sport during the past year and four other associate members in men's lacrosse. The six associate members accounted for 63 of the selections, meaning 2,706 were named from the 14 institutions that compete on a full-time basis in the GLVC – an average of just over 193 per school that is also the largest average ever.
The Miners' men's track and field program had 24 individuals selected to the all-academic team as did the Miner baseball team during the past year to head the lists. In the case of the men's track program, it is the fifth consecutive year in which it has led or shared the highest number of selections to the GLVC's all-academic squad.
Missouri S&T's football team had 21 members of its squad on the all-academic team, meaning that S&T's top three teams in terms of numbers were also teams that finished either first or second in regular season or conference competition in the GLVC on the field during the 2018-19 season.
The honors were also extended to 17 individuals representing the men's and women's soccer teams, 14 from women's track & field, 11 from the men's cross country and softball squads, 10 from the swimming program, nine from the volleyball squad, eight from the women's basketball and cross country teams, five individuals from the men's and women's golf teams and four members of the men's basketball program.
Each of Missouri S&T's athletic teams had representatives selected to the All-Academic team, which were awarded to all student-athletes with a 3.3 of better grade point average with at least one season of eligibility at the institution.
