Miners to close GLVC slate against Rockhurst Friday and Saturday

ROLLA, Mo. – The Missouri S&T baseball team has three games on deck this week to conclude matters in the regular season for 2019, as its faces Rockhurst on Friday and Saturday looking to lock up a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

S&T and Rockhurst will face off in a doubleheader Friday at noon before concluding the series Sunday with a single game that will also begin at noon. Prior to Saturday's contest, the Miner seniors will be honored as part of the Senior Day festivities which will begin around 11:45 a.m.
 
The Miners (27-15, 19-11 GLVC) currently sit in fourth place in the GLVC standings, two games back of leader Maryville and a game behind Quincy and Illinois Springfield for second place.  The Miners dropped a series at home to Bellarmine last weekend, losing a tough game in extra innings Sunday by a score of 6-5 after splitting a doubleheader Saturday by scores of 11-3 in the loss and 15-5 in the win.
 
Matt Gruse (Neenah, WI/Neenah) remains the leading hitter for S&T, as he comes into the week with a .335 batting average to go with a team-leading 12 doubles and checks in with 26 RBI which ranks second on the club.  Kaleb Reid (Smithville, MO/Smithville), who has seen his average rise steadily since the first part of April, enters play this week at .328 with 16 stolen bases, 21 RBI, and four triples.  Tim Lira (Granger, IN/Penn), Cameron Burk (Nacogdoches, TX/Cushing), Matt Knickerbocker (Bayfield, CO/Bayfield), Jason Volkmann (Liberty, MO/Liberty) and Zach Bracken (Berthoud, CO/Berthoud) are all batting above the .300 mark as well.
 
On the mound, Luke Marcheschi (Bloomington, IL/Central Catholic) enters the week at 7-2 with a 3.65 ERA in 61 2/3 innings of work, having walked just five batters all season.  Dalton Erger (Imperial, MO/Seckman) moved to 6-4 last weekend and brings a 3.14 ERA into the week, having worked a GLVC-high 74 1/3 innings and striking out 65 while allowing 69 hits.  Stuart Martin (Ajax, ON/Ajax) worked six scoreless innings of relief Sunday, allowing just two hits and striking out four as he lowered his ERA to 1.09 while extending his scoreless innings streak to 14 2/3.  Joe Wolf (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg) and Conner Forsythe (Farmington, MO/Farmington) both have ERAs below 2.00, while Will Boettcher (Metamora, IL/Metamora) leads the staff in appearances with 18.
 
Rockhurst (12-34, 6-24 GLVC) currently resides in 13th in the GLVC standings with Truman State and will host Southwest Baptist in a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader before making the trip for the weekend contests.  Garrett McNally is the leading hitter for the Hawks at .365 and has homered five times while driving in 34 and stealing a team-best eight bases.  Nathan Mark is batting .326 with four round trippers and leads the team with 35 RBI.  McNally and Alex Van Pelt are tied for the team lead with doubles at 12, while Noah Huston has three of the Hawks' triples on the year. 
 
Jack Eisenbarger has carried Rockhurst on the mound this season, sporting a 3-4 record to go with a 3.48 ERA and has struck out a GLVC-best 95 batters in 72 1/3 innings.  Thomas Jones is 3-3 with a 5.77 ERA in 17 relief appearances and has one of the team's two saves this season (Eisenbarger got the other in the Hawks' second game win over Southwest Baptist Wednesday).  Grant Ruediger has made 11 starts for 49 2/3 innings to go with a 1-5 mark and a 5.98 ERA. 

Last season the Miners took three of the four games against the Hawks in Kansas City, winning by scores of 7-3, 5-4 and 13-8.
