SPRINGFIELD, IL- The Miner women's golf team faced a rough outing during Round 1 of the GLVC Championship. They will go into tomorrow in 11
th place at 62 over par with a 350 opening round.
After facing a tough back nine, the Miners dropped seven places. They will look to redeem themselves tomorrow in the second round.
Indianapolis currently holds the top spot with a 324 opening round and 15 strokes ahead of the next closest competitors. Lewis and Missouri-St. Louis sit tied for second place while Rockhurst, Illinois-Springfield, and McKendree look at a three-way tie for fourth.
S&T's
Taylor Ornelas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) is within striking distance of the top individual spot; after opening with an 81 and nine over par, she is currently in a seven-way tie for 5
th place.
Lauren Allen (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis Catholic) is not far behind her as she hold sole possession of 15
th place at 11 over par.
Teammates
Katie Hamilton (Republic, Mo./Republic),
Karson Kimsey (Sautee Nacoochee, Ga./White County), and
Anna Reisinger (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) finished the first round with scores of 92, 94, and 102, respectively.
Maryville's Carmen Villaverde will go into tomorrow with in the lead for individuals; she completed Round 1 at three over par after shooting 75. Indianapolis' Pilar Echeverria is right behind her in second place at four over par while Southern Indiana's Abbey Leighty and William Jewell's Jailyn Marshall are tied for third place at eight over par.
All Miner golfers will tee off from Hole 1 tomorrow morning.
Anna Reisinger (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) will kick things off at 9:03 a.m. with
Karson Kimsey (Sautee Nacoochee, Ga./White County) to follow at 9:12 a.m.
Katie Hamilton (Republic, Mo./Republic) will tee off at 9:21,
Lauren Allen (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis Catholic) will tee-off at 9:30, and
Taylor Ornelas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) will round up the team with a 9:39 tee time.
