ROLLA, MO- Fresh off a rough opening weekend, the Miners will turn their attention to their home opener against the Blue Jays of Westminster College Wednesday night.
S&T finished out the weekend challenging the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan to a nine point game.
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic),
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones), and
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) combined for 36 of the team's 53 points while the team out-rebounded KWC 47-35.
After this weekend,
Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) and
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) lead the team with 11.0 points/game while
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) comes averaging 10 points. Baylor was a force on the boards this weekend, bringing down a team best 26 rebounds.
About Westminster:
After a 19-7 campaign in the 18-19 season, the Blue Jays are currently 1-1 for the season after taking down Illinois College by 43 on Friday night, but turning around and falling to Millikin 52-68.
Westminster, who struggled in the opening half against Millikin, faced a 29-25 deficit while being outrebounded 25-14 and committing 11 turnovers. While the second half saw more ball control, the hot shooting of Millikin kept the Blue Jays at bay and held them to just three 3-pt. field goals and one free-throw attempt in the second half.
Sophomore Jackie Arnold leads the team with 14.5 points/game so far, shooting a team best 47.8% from the field and a whopping 41.7% from behind the arc. Reese Arnold and Mikalyn Callahan are also averaging double figures for the Blue Jays, chipping in 11.5 and 10.5 points/contest while Callahan dominates the boards for Westminster, bringing down just over eight rebounds a game.
The Miners and Blue Jays have met 10 times over the course of the last decade, with every outcome going in favor of Missouri S&T.

Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) had a breakout game, scoring 23 points on 9-13 shooting while pulling down a team best nine rebounds.
Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) and
Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) added in 25 combined points while Kabetske and
Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) dished out nine of the teams 17 assists.
