ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team will look to break into the win column for the first time in the 2018 season when it faces a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents in its second weekend of conference action.
The Miners will face Southern Indiana Friday evening in a 7:30 p.m. to begin play this weekend, before heading back to the road Sunday to take on Drury at 2:30 p.m. in Springfield, Mo. Friday's contest will open a five-game stretch for the Miners in which they will play four of those contests on their home turf.
S&T, 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the GLVC, opened conference play last weekend with a pair of setbacks at the hands of Bellarmine and Quincy, as the Miners scored just one goal in those two games.
Eric Ferenbach (Godfrey, IL/Alton) tallied his first goal of the season and his career in Sunday's game at Quincy and is one of three Miners who have scored goals during the 2018 campaign.
The other goals have come from
Austin Parks (Rolla, MO/Rolla), who has scored three times and is currently tied for ninth in the GLVC in goals, while
Unnar Ulfarsson (Gardabaer, Iceland/Fjolnir Reykjavik), who has other two S&T goals, is tied for 10
th in overall points with six as he has two goals and two assists.
Southern Indiana comes into Friday's match with a 3-1-1 overall record after picking up a win and a tie in the first weekend of GLVC action. After posting a 2-1 win over Drury, the Screaming Eagles played to a scoreless draw Sunday at Truman State.
USI rallied for the win over Drury as Eric Ramirez scored twice in the final eight minutes of regulation time. Ramirez is one of three players with goals for the Screaming Eagles this season, as Colten Walsh has scored twice and Sean Rickey leads the way with three goals and an assist. Goalkeeper Justin Faas has given up five goals in five starts on the year.
Following its loss at Southern Indiana, Drury was handed a 1-0 overtime loss Sunday at Missouri-St. Louis and like the Miners, enters the weekend looking for its first triumph of the year. The Panthers, 0-5-1 overall with the tie coming against Upper Iowa, have scored only two goals on the year which have come from Jamie O'Brien and Francesco Ferri.
