Miners fall to Truman in straight sets

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Miners fell to the Truman State Bulldogs in straight sets on Wednesday evening at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. S&T struggled to get its offense hitting just .107 for the match.

The Miners (5-9, 1-4 GLVC) got off to a good start scoring three straight points to begin the match but couldn't maintain the lead as Truman (6-7, 2-2 GLVC) used a 10-4 midway through the frame to take a 19-13 advantage. S&T continued to trail by six late in the set but began cutting into the Bulldog leading scoring four straight to get to 23-21. Carson Talley (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) had a chance to cut the lead to one but her attempt sailed just long on the back line to give Truman set point. Jocelynn Livingston ended the set on the next point with a kill.

The Miners held a five point lead early in set two but were unable to put the 'Dogs away. Truman came back and led by three late in the set but S&T rallied and took a 24-23 lead on a kill from Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic). The two sides then back to trade points back and forth with the Bulldogs holding set points six different times but the Miners kept being able to extend the set. S&T had a chance of their own to even the match after taking a 30-29 lead on a kill from Sarah McGinnis (Middleton, Wis./Edgewood). Truman was eventually able to take the set 33-31 on a block from Livingston and Natalie Brimeyer.

The third set saw eight ties and three lead changes before the Bulldogs began to pull away late building a 23-18 lead after a kill by Brimeyer. The Miners responded with four straight points to get within 23-22 but weren't able to complete the comeback as Truman scored two of the last three points to win 25-22 and complete the sweep.
Combs led S&T with nine kills while Talley and Kyley Thompson (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) added eight each. Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside) finished with 17 assists and had 15 digs.
