ROLLA, Mo. – A light week of action for Missouri S&T's men's soccer team is one that involves a big home contest as the Miners seek to keep themselves in the hunt for a Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament spot.
The Miners will take on Drury Friday in a 7:30 p.m. contest at the S&T Soccer Field in its only action of the week, with S&T sitting in ninth place in the conference standings entering play this weekend at 4-4 in the GLVC and 5-4-1 overall. Drury is just one-half game in front of S&T in the league at 4-3 and is 5-4 overall.
Missouri S&T had its four-game winning streak – which reached that point following an overtime win at William Jewell Friday on
Martin Klevjer (Trondheim, Norway/)'s goal in the second extra period – come to an end Sunday at the hands of league leader and sixth-ranked Rockhurst in a 2-0 setback in Kansas City.
Aaron Hohenstein (St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South) made eight saves in goal for S&T in Sunday's game and leads NCAA Division II with 74 saves on the year. He comes into Friday's contest sporting a 1.33 goals against average with three shutouts on the year.
David Murphy (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) continues to lead the Miners in scoring with 10 points on four goals and two assists, while
Felipe Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/) has scored three times and
Unnar Ulfarsson (Gardabaer, Iceland/Fjolnir Reykjavik) has racked up a team-high five assists which ranks in a tie for first in the GLVC. Andrade scored the Miners' first goal in the win at William Jewell on Friday.
ABOUT DRURY: The Panthers also dropped a contest to Rockhurst over the weekend, falling 2-1 on Friday in their only match of the weekend. Drury took the initial lead in the contest on a goal by Charles Guelly, but the Hawks scored late in the first half to tie the game and won it with a goal in the 78
th minute.
Ben Bruce leads the Panthers with four goals and 10 points on the year, while Pierre Villez has seven points and is tied with Ulfarsson for the league's assist lead with five. Guelly has scored twice along with Dean McConnell and Joshua Lewis-Evans.
Nicholas Helin has started all nine games in goal for Drury and has a 1.01 goals against average with 32 saves.
The Panthers beat the Miners in the final game of the regular season last October in Springfield, preventing S&T from gaining a share of the GLVC regular season title. The Miners took a 2-0 decision in Drury's last visit to Rolla in 2015.
