ROLLA, Mo. – A berth to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament is on the line for Missouri S&T Wednesday afternoon as it closes its 2017 regular season schedule by hosting Wisconsin-Parkside at the S&T Soccer Field. Game time is at 3:30 p.m.
The Miners, 7-6-2 overall and 6-6-1 in the GLVC, enters Wednesday's contest in a tie with Drury for the eighth and final playoff spot for the tournament that will begin on Sunday, but S&T owns the tiebreaker over the Panthers by virtue of its win over Drury on Oct. 7.
Thus, a win on Wednesday would clinch a playoff spot for the Miners, but a tie or loss would open the door for Drury or Missouri-St. Louis – who sits one-half game in back of S&T – to possibly pass the Miners for the final berth.
The Miners split a pair of contests last weekend, beating McKendree 3-2 in overtime on
Ian Hansen (Springfield, MO/Kickapoo)'s goal but falling 2-1 Sunday at Southern Indiana. Hansen also scored on Sunday and has scored three times this season, one of four Miners with at least three goals.
David Murphy (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) leads S&T with six and has a team-high 14 assists, while
Felipe Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/) has tallied five goals and
Unnar Ulfarsson (Gardabaer, Iceland/Fjolnir Reykjavik) has scored three with seven assists, the second-most in the GLVC.
Goalkeeper
Aaron Hohenstein (St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South) enters Wednesday's contest with a 1.45 goals against average and has made 99 saves on the year, the fourth-most in NCAA Division II.
ABOUT WISCONSIN-PARKSIDE: The Rangers, who will be playing their final game of the 2017 season and as a member of the GLVC Wednesday, is coming off the most productive offensive showing by any team in the conference as its 10-1 win Sunday over William Jewell improved them to 5-9-1 overall and 5-7-1 in the league.
Lexi Prpa scored the first three goals for the Rangers in the victory and leads UW-Parkside with six goals and five assists on the season for 17 points. Abraham Kanneh has scored five times this year, while Jorge Garcia has three goals that included two on Sunday. Despite their record that sits below the .500 mark, the Rangers have outscored their foes by four goals overall.
Nate Kitchell has a 1.19 goals against average and has made 63 saves in 1,284 minutes of playing time.
