Volleyball looks to extend three match winning streak

Rolla, Mo. – Missouri S&T's volleyball team looks to extend its three match winning streak when it returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend. The Miners (8-14, 1-8 GLVC) will head to Missouri-St. Louis on Friday evening to take on the Tritons at 7 p.m. and then will head to Springfield, Ill., on Saturday to take on the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield at 3 p.m.

S&T, coming off its first ever perfect weekend at the Midwest Region Crossover, had a hitting percentage of nearly 30 percent while averaging 16.8 kills per set. Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) led the way averaging 4.3 kills/set, Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State), who was named to the All-Tournament team, averaged 3.4 kills per set and Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) averaged 3.00 kills/set. The Miners did a good job on the defensive side of the ball as well holding their opponents to a .171 attack percentage while averaging 18.5 digs per set and 1.80 blocks per set. Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) averaged 5.8 digs per set while Schlader averaged 1.2 blocks per set.

Missouri-St. Louis is 14-6 on the season but just 4-5 in GLVC play. The Tritons are also riding a three match winning streak after going 3-0 last weekend at Crossover. They defeated Davis & Elkins and Ashland in four sets and swept Purdue Northwest.

As a team, UMSL is averaging over 13 kills per set and has a hitting percentage of .190 while holding their opponents to a .140 attack percentage. Kylie Rudsinski leads the Tritons in kills with 2.75 per set. Selena Nolte is contributing 2.64 kills per set, Maddy Russell is averaging 2.55 per set and Alex Milner is adding 2.14 per set. Madyson Abeyta and Payton Kennelly run the offense dishing out 5.96 and 4.70 assists per set respectively. Defensively as a team, UMSL is averaging 1.92 blocks and 17.6 digs per set.

Illinois Springfield is 13-8, 5-4 GLVC on the season after going 2-1 at Crossover this past weekend. The Prairie Stars opened the event with a five set loss to Grand Valley State on Friday then rebounded to defeat Lake Superior State in four sets and swept Davenport on Saturday. The Stars will take on Drury on Friday before hosting the Miners on Saturday.

As a team, UIS is averaging 13.9 kills per set and has an attack percentage of .222. Taylor Bauer leads the charge with 2.89 kills per set while Alyssa Hasler is averaging 2.70 per set. Jailyn Borum is contributing 2.28 per set and Alli Splitt is averaging 2.11 per set. Tiffany Wentworth and Lexi Hall are averaging 7.20 and 5.61 assists per set respectively. Defensively as team, the Prairie Stars are ranked second in the GLVC in blocks with 2.41 per set and are sixth in the league in digs at 17.57 per set. Hasler is averaging 1.38 blocks per set and Borum is averaging 3.93 digs per set.
