Rolla, Mo. – Missouri S&T's volleyball team heads up to Chicago this weekend to take part in the Midwest Region Crossover this Friday and Saturday at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill. The tournament, hosted by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference this year, features teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference and the G-MAC.
The Miners (5-14) open play in the event on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against Ohio Dominican and then will play two matches on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. against Lake Superior State and conclude the event taking on Davis & Elkins at 4 p.m.
The Panthers (3-15, 2-7 G-MAC) enter play this weekend having dropped three straight and five of their last six overall. Last week they dropped three matches at home falling to Urbana and Malone in four sets each and then were swept by Walsh on Saturday.
As a team ODU is averaging just 10.61 kills per set and has a hitting percentage of .104. Ciara Ralston leads the Panthers on offense averaging 2.45 kills per set while Kelly Nadler is averaging 2.00 kills/set. Ashton Parr is the team's primary setter dishing out 7.78 assists per set while Anna Ficker leads the way on the defensive side of the ball with 4.14 digs per set.
Lake Superior State snapped its 13 match losing streak this past Saturday sweeping Purdue Northwest on the road. The Lakers (2-13, 1-8 GLIAC) take on Truman State on Friday at 2:30 p.m. before playing S&T and Ohio Dominican on Saturday.
As a team LSSU is averaging 11.3 kills per set and has an attack percentage of .134. However, it is averaging 1.68 blocks per set, 1.25 service aces per set and 16.04 digs per set. Brooke Williams leads the Laker attack averaging 2.93 kills per set while Amanda Reid and Jena Tulgestke are averaging 2.50 and 2.03 kills/set respectively. Lauren Lukasik and Madison Castle have split time at the setter position with Lukasik dishing out 5.41 assists per set and Castle handing out 4.35 per set. Paige Gotham leads the way on the defensive side of the ball averaging 6.04 digs per set which ranks 10
th in NCAA Division II.
Davis & Elkins enters play this week with a mark of 6-11, 4-5 in G-MAC play. The Senators host Alderson Broaddus on Tuesday night in a G-MAC match before heading to Chicago this weekend. Davis & Elkins plays Missouri-St. Louis at 2:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, then plays Northwood on Saturday morning before taking on the Miners.
The Senators are averaging 10.5 kills per set and have an attack percentage of .134 as a team. Sasha Johnson paces the team's offense with 2.75 kills per set while Kaitlyn LaCour and Anna Gallup are averaging 2.63 and 2.16 kills per set. Zoe Craig is the team's primary setter handing out 6.58 assists per set while Kelly Smith is the leader on the defensive side of the ball with 3.6 digs per set.
