ROLLA, Mo. – Two teams on active unbeaten streaks will square off on the pitch Wednesday night as Missouri S&T plays host to Lindenwood University in a men's soccer contest at 7 p.m. at the S&T Soccer Field.
The Miners enter Wednesday's contest with a seven-game unbeaten streak – their longest to begin a season in school history – while the Lions have not lost in their last five games.
Missouri S&T is opening a three-game homestand this week, which will include games against Missouri-St. Louis Friday and Maryville Sunday, following a successful end to a four-game stretch on the road with Sunday's 2-1 win at Truman State. The Miners, 3-0-4 overall on the season, got goals from
Felipe Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and
Tyler Sivadon (Spring, TX/Concordia Lutheran) to remain as one of three teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference without a loss in league play.
Andrade, who also scored in the Miners' 2-2 tie Friday at Quincy, is tied for third in the GLVC with five goals on the season. The Miners have also received two goals from
Unnar Ulfarsson (Gardabaer, Iceland/Fjolnir Reykjavik) – including the game-tying goal at Quincy with under two minutes remaining in regulation time – and a goal from
Will McIntyre (Queenstown, New Zealand).
Goalkeeper
Aaron Hohenstein (St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South) has a 0.50 goals against average and four shutouts on the season, making 41 saves in 726 minutes of playing time and owns the 13
th-best goals against average in NCAA Division II.
Lindenwood has won its last four outings after a scoreless tie against Rogers State that started its current five-game unbeaten run and has outscored its opponents 18-2 over the last four games. The Lions, who own a 5-2-2 mark on the season, have tallied 23 goals in nine games this season.
Xhovani Dokaj, who previously played at Quincy, leads the Lions with 10 goals on the year and has scored Lindenwood's first goal in every game of its current winning streak, three of which have come in the first five minutes of action. He is currently tied for fourth in NCAA Division II with his 10 goals.
Thomas Hutcheson has scored five times for Lindenwood, while goalkeeper Aleksa Nenadic has a 0.63 goals against average in 715 minutes of action.
