Volleyball opens home slate with beginning of GLVC Schedule

Rolla, Mo. – After two straight weekends on the road the Missouri S&T volleyball squad opens it home slate with a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches to begin its conference slate. The Miners host 15th ranked Lewis on Friday at 7 p.m. and Wisconsin-Parkside at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

S&T is 3-5 on the season after going 3-1 at the Gold & Green Challenge in St. Joseph, Mo., this past weekend. Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) led the offense last weekend with 4.25 kills per set and recorded double digit kills in each match. Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) was just as an impressive on the defensive side recording 4.56 digs per set. Both players were named to the All-Tournament team.

Friedlund leads the team with 76 kills while Kyley Thompson (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) and Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) have 60 and 49 respectively. Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside) has distributed 9.18 assists per set and Stulce is averaging over five digs per set. Caroline Dykes (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) and Carson Talley (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) have combined for 25 of the team's 35 total blocks.

The Flyers started the season with four straight wins before going 1-3 last weekend at the Colorado Premiere Challenge. Lewis dropped its pool contests to St. Leo in four sets and was swept by Concordia-St. Paul last Friday. On Saturday, the Flyers swept Arkansas-Fort Smith and then fell to West Florida in four sets.

Aly Schneider, Maddie Seliga and Elizabeth Hyland lead the offensive attack for Lewis with 90, 83 and 83 kills respectively. As a team the Flyers are averaging nearly 14 kills per set and have a hitting percentage of .214. Abby Becker is the quarterback of the attack dishing out nearly 11.5 assists per set while Nicole Yuede has dug up 142 attacks.

Wisconsin-Parkside is 1-7 on the season heading into Tuesday night's match at Olivet Nazarene. After that match the Rangers will head south to take on Drury on Friday night before traveling to Rolla on Saturday.

Rebecca Roembke leads the Parkside attack with an average of 2.67 kills per set while Lexi Turek ias averaging 2.23 per set and Katie Adams is at 2.04 per set. Lauren Hickson is the primary setter for the Rangers distributing 9.20 assists per set and Annie Leo is the leader on the defensive side of the ball with 4.50 digs per set.
