Drake Meet Results
LIBERTY, Mo. – Strong performances by Missouri S&T's field personnel – including two event wins -- paced the Miners to a third place finish Saturday at the Darrell Gourley Invitational at William Jewell College.
John Karsten (Jefferson City, Mo./Blair Oaks HS) captured first in the shot put Saturday as he had a throw of 52-10 and also had a third place showing in the hammer throw at 178-11 and a fourth in the discus, where he had a mark of 151 feet. Karsten passed the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard in both the shot and hammer.
The Miners' other winning performance came from
Lucas Rosenbaum (Sidney, Neb./Sidney HS) in the pole vault with a Division II provisional clearance of 15-9 as S&T dominated the event with five of the top six finishers.
Cody Durand (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) came in third as he cleared 14-9, as did
David Jones-Richerson (St. Peters, Mo./Duchesne) and
Jack Miller (Casa Grande, Ariz./Union) to place fourth and fifth, respectively, based on misses.
Andrew Scherff (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North HS) was the fifth finisher among that group in sixth at 14-3¼.
Garrett Friday (New Market, Md./Oakdale HS) was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 47-11¼ and
Nick Barrett (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) was fifth in the discus at 141-7, while
Luke Moehlenbrock (Mountain VIew, Mo./Mountain View-Liberty) finished fifth in the high jump by clearing 6-4¾, finishing immediately ahead of Matt Sebelski who cleared 6-2¾ to take sixth.
Trace Norfleet (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) also had a sixth place showing in the long jump with a mark of 22-0¼.
Adam Kraus (Tulsa, Okla./Thomas Edison Preparatory) had a sixth place finishi in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:07.87 as did
Gabe Underwood (Jackson, Mo./Jackson HS) in the 5,000-meters as he posted a mark of 15:54.10. Underwood was among a trio of top-10 finishers in the 5,000, as
Connor Crabtree (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge HS) finished ninth in 16:12.86 and
Danny Deposki (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) in 10
th in 16:13.05.
Tyler Percy (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) took eighth in the 800-meters with a time of 1:56.81 and
Logan Shearer (The Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands Christian Academy) was 10
th in a time of 1:57.05, while teammate Stephan Hickman was 12
th in that event at 1:57.05.
Brendan Cox (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights HS) had an 11
th place showing in the high jump as he went over the bar at 6-0¾ as did
Nick Anselmo (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) in the javelin at 137-9, while Moehlenbrock was 12
th in the long jump at 20-7.
Friday finished 13
th in the hammer at 146-2, followed by Barrett in 14
th at 143-9 and
Mark Echele (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) in 15
th at 143-6.
Koby Bird (Kirksville, Mo./Kirksville HS) took 15
th in the 1,500-meters with a time of 16:30.05.
A total of 23 teams took part in Saturday's meet, which was won by Lincoln with 140 points. Johnson County Community College took second with 85, followed by the Miners with 75.
Also over the weekend, the Miners had some high finishers in the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, led by
Joe Bindner (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East HS)'s fourth place showing in the 1,500-meters in 3:58.07.
Kyle Stocker (Solon, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) placed seventh in that event in 3:59.16 and Bindner added a 12th place performance in the 5,000-meters with a time of 15:21.78.
Missouri S&T's next competition will be at Allgood-Bailey Stadium next Saturday when it hosts the Dewey Allgood Invitational.
