S&T looks to snap five game skid

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners look to break its five-game losing streak when it heads to Kansas City this weekend to take on William Jewell and Rockhurst. The Lady Miners square off with the Cardinals this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. followed by a matchup with the Hawks on Saturday at 1 p.m.

S&T has dropped four of the last five meetings against the Cardinals at the Mabee Center dating back to the 2010-11 season and is just 4-6 against William Jewell since the series resumed in the 2009-10 campaign.

Bria Pierce (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North) continues to lead the Lady Miners in scoring averaging 11.5 points per game while Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) is averaging 9.3 points a contest and leads the team in rebounding with 7.1 per outing. In her last three games sophomore guard Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) is averaging nearly 13 ppg, shooting 52 percent from the field and has knocked down seven of her 12 attempts from beyond the arc.

William Jewell enters Thursday's contest with a record of 7-11, 2-5 GLVC after defeating Rockhurst 68-49 on Monday night in Liberty. The Cardinals held the Hawks to under 30 percent shooting from the field while outrebounding them 55-29. Madison Campbell led the way with 15 points while Maddie Nelson added 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Nelson leads the team in scoring (10.8 ppg), rebounding (7.8 rpg), assists (79) and steals (37). Freshman Blair Klostermann is averaging 9.4 points per game on the season but in league play her average is up to 10.4 per contest. Campbell is third on the team in scoring with 8.3 per game.

Rockhurst fell to 10-5, 3-4 GLVC after its loss at William Jewell on Monday and will host Drury on Thursday evening at 5:15 p.m. The loss on Monday snapped a three-game winning streak for the Hawks.

Rockhurst is led in scoring by junior Mary Dineen with 17.7 points per game while senior Lauren Meyers is dropping in 12.5 per contest. The Hawks lead the GLVC in three-point field goals made averaging nearly 8.75 per contest and rank sixth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage at 32.8 percent.

The Lady Miners won 18 of the first 19 meetings against the Hawks but have lost five of the last six contests and four in a row.
