Former swimmer Schranck to receive NCAA post-graduate scholarship

ROLLA, Mo. – Former Missouri S&T swimming standout Andrew Schranck has been selected as one of the recipients of a post-graduate scholarship award from the NCAA for the 2015 winter season.

Schranck, who graduated from Missouri S&T in the spring of 2013 with a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering, received the award of $7,500 from the NCAA, which is given out to 29 graduates in each of the three athletic seasons (fall, winter and spring) who have been accepted into a graduate degree-granting program at an accredited graduate or professional school.

Schranck plans to attend the University of Notre Dame with his post-graduate scholarship award.

"We are extremely proud of Andrew.  I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor," said Missouri S&T director of athletics Mark Mullin.  "Andrew continues to be a great representative of Miner athletics and I know he will be extremely successful in all of his future endeavors.  We wish him the best in his pursuit of academic excellence at Notre Dame."

While at Missouri S&T, Schranck earned 21 All-America awards during his four seasons in the swimming program, including a third place finish in the 200-yard butterfly during his freshman season in the 2008-09 academic year.  He was also named to the Capital One Academic All-America team following the 2012-13 season as a third-team selection, a year in which he was also named as a co-recipient of the Gale Bullman Award which is given to the top senior student-athlete at Missouri S&T.

At the conference level, Schranck won four titles at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Championships and recorded five top-four finishes during the 2013 NSISC meet after missing the entire 2011-12 season due to an injury.

Schranck earned six All-America awards in his freshman and sophomore seasons at S&T, then picked up seven in the 2010-11 campaign.  His highest finish was a third place effort in the 200-butterfly in his freshman season when he set the school record at 1:48.40.  He is still also the holder of the S&T standard in that event as well as the 100-yard butterfly at 48.56 seconds and as part of the Miners' two medley relay teams.
