S&T hosts Drury Wednesday seeking to secure first round home game

Game Coverage:Live VideoLive Stats

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T has an opportunity to earn a home game in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Wednesday, but there is one obstacle that needs to be cleared for that to happen – a matchup Wednesday night against archrival Drury. Game time is at 7:30 p.m. at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

The Miners, who have already clinched a berth to the tournament, can lock up a home game with a win on their own part and a win or tie by Indianapolis against Saint Joseph's, who is tied with S&T for the fourth and final host spot in the standings.

While a win – coupled with the other aforementioned result – would put the Miners at home on Sunday afternoon, a loss or tie against Drury could clutter matters and drop S&T below fourth, which would in turn send it on the road in the first round.

The Miners come into Wednesday's game at 8-5-1 in the GLVC and 9-7-1 overall after dropping a decision to Indianapolis Friday and playing to a scoreless tie at Saint Joseph's Sunday.

Eduardo Abichabki (Sao Jose do Rio Pardo, Brazil/Colegio Unigrau) is currently tied for second in the conference with eight goals on the season and his 19 points has him ranked second as well.  Meanwhile, Felipe Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), with six goals and five assists for 17 points, is ranked in sixth for points, a tie for sixth in goals and tied for seventh in assists, while Ryan Lawhead (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) is tied for second with his seven assists.

Goalkeeper Nick Posey (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) has a 1.23 goals against average in 13 appearances, while James Holloway (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Notre Dame Regional) has recorded shutouts in each of his last three starts, including Sunday at Saint Joseph's and has a 0.70 goals against mark.

Statistically, Drury has been on par with the Miners in terms of its defensive numbers, as the Panthers have posted a 1.08 team goals against average (S&T's is 1.10) behind goalkeepers Blake Andrews and Nicholas Hein.  Andrews has seen the larger percentage of playing time and has a 1.10 mark on the year.

The Panthers, 7-7-2 overall and 7-5-2 in the GLVC after dropping both games of the trip to Indiana over the weekend, have scored 19 goals in 16 games with Ben Bruce leading the way with five on the season.  Matt Clarkin has tallied four goals, while Bruce and Julien Chevy have four assists apiece.
