KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Missouri S&T captured eight of the 11 events Friday afternoon to take a dual meet from Truman State University by a count of
129-76.
The Miners won both relays to bookend the meet, starting with the 200-yard medley relay with the team of
Ryan Layne (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek),
Miguel Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres),
Caleb Hathaway (North Little Rock, Ark./Central Arkansas Christian) and
Jon Glaser (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) winning in a time of 1:37.46.
Aljaz Kerc (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Bezigrad),
Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset), Hathaway and
Keith Sponsler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay to end matters, winning in 1:27.27.
In between, the Miners got event wins from Glaser in the 200-freestyle in 1:42.26 and 500-freestyle in 4:46.15, Chavez in the 200-breaststroke in 2:07.65,
Jon Anderson (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury Senior) in the 50-freestyle in 21.72 seconds, Layne in the 200-individual medley in 1:58.41 and Sponsler in the 100-freestyle in 47.10 seconds.
Nielsen took second in the 200-freestyle in 1:43.97 and 200-butterfly in 1:57.13, while Sponsler had a time of 21.76 in the 50-freestyle, Chavez a mark of 1:58.77 in the 200-IM and Kerc a time of 48.31 in the 100-free to earn second place finishes on Friday.
Third place efforts came from
Mike Rouleau (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:15.80 and 200-backstroke in 1:59.36,
Stuart Mossop (Houston, Texas/James E. Taylor) in the 200-IM in 1:59.97, Hathaway in the 200-butterfly in 1:58.42, Anderson in the 100-freestyle in 48.43 and
Drew Larkins (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) in the 200-breaststroke in 2:14.20.
The Miners will host their final home meet of the season next Friday, taking on Missouri State at 5 p.m. at the S&T Pool.
