Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Ark. – Missouri S&T's baseball dropped the completion of Friday's suspended game with 24
th-ranked St. Cloud State
5-0 early on Saturday, then lost both end of the regularly scheduled doubleheader by scores of
9-1 and
15-5, falling to 3-6 on the year as a result.
The Miners were held to seven hits in the suspended contest, then had just six in Saturday's opener. S&T scored in the opening inning after the Huskies had scored in the top half of the frame, with
Reed Brown (Rogers, Ark./Heritage) driving home
Tyler Bodenstab (Independence, Mo./Truman) who had reached on an error to open the inning.
However, the Huskies scored three in the third off S&T starter
Eric Van Dyke (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek), then added a run in the sixth and broke the game open with four runs in the seventh inning.
Michael Lockett (O'Fallon, Mo./Timberland) and
Lance Portwood (Edmond, Okla./Edmond Santa Fe) had two hits apiece for S&T in game one.
In the second game, St. Cloud State scored runs in each of the first six innings, including a seven-run outburst in the fourth inning that was highlighted by Mike Jurgella's three-run homer.
The Miners scored three times in the fifth, with Portwood and
Trevor Karbowski (Standish, Mich./Sterling Central) driving in runs and adding two more in the seventh as
Clint Wobbe (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) drove in a run and Portwood the other with a sacrifice fly.
Kyle Robertson (Granite City, Ill./Granite City), the first of six pitchers used by the Miners in the second game, took the loss for S&T. The Huskies outhit the Miners 17-9 in the contest.
Missouri S&T is scheduled to host Missouri Southern in a single game Wednesday at 2 p.m., then is slated to host Wisconsin-Parkside in a four-game series beginning Saturday at the S&T Baseball Field.
