(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners begin a four-game homestand on Thursday when it plays host to the Cardinals of William Jewell College at 5:30 p.m. on Billy Key Court. S&T will then face Rockhurst on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Lady Miners head into Thursday's contest looking to snap a two-game losing streak when William Jewell comes to town. In six games at home this season S&T is averaging 75.0 points, shooting 47.4 percent from the field, 46.0 percent from beyond the arc and are outrebounding its opponents by over five rebounds per game. Those averages are signficantly higher than its overall numbers.
The Cardinals come into Thursday night's contest sporting an 8-5 mark, 3-2 in GLVC play after suffering an 89-73 loss at 14
th ranked Indianapolis this past Saturday. In that contest William Jewell trailed the Greyhounds by only four points at halftime, but the 'Hounds opened the second half with an 18-4 run to build an 18-point lead. The Cardinals would cut the margin to 12 points, but wouldn't get any closer.
William Jewell has three players averaging double figures led by seniors Chelsea Meeks and Cassy Nicolay with 17.1 points and 13.0 points per game respectively. Junior transfer Hayli Jo Smith is averaging 10.6 per game.
The Cardinals are averaging almost 80 points per game which is fifth in GLVC, but are allowing 74.3 points per contest to rank near the bottom of the league. WJC does lead the league in turnover margin forcing nearly 20 turnovers per game while yielding only 13 per contest. It also leads the league in steals with 12.2 per game.
Toni Knar (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) remains amongst the league leaders in scoring, three-point field-goal percentage and three-point field-goals made. She is averaging 13.2 points per game, shooting 47.2 percent from beyond the arc and is making 2.6 three-point field goals per game. She is currently second in school history with 175 three-point field-goals made behind only Trish Van Diggelen who made 219 for her career.
Saturday's opponent, Rockhurst, is 5-8 overall and 0-5 in league play heading into Thursday night's contest at 10
th-ranked Drury. The Hawks dropped a 76-67 decision in their most recent contest at Saint Joseph's this past Saturday. Mary Dineen led four Rockhurst players in double figures with 15 points.
Dineen leads the Hawks in scoring averaging nearly 15 points per game and is shooting 37.6 percent from the field. Shavonne Brewer and Lauren Meyers are averaging 10.4 and 10.0 ppg respectively.
