Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T volleyball team stayed perfect in Great Lakes Valley Conference action picking up their second straight
3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-18) victory on Sunday afternoon in Rolla. The Miners finished the match with an attack percentage of .287 (42k/15e/94ta) while holding the Pumas to just a .103 attack percentage (29k/19/97ta).
S&T (6-4, 2-0 GLVC) trailed 11-8 in the opening set forcing them to using a timeout. After the timeout the Miners ran off three straight points to even the set. The set remained tied at 14-all when they decided to take over sandwiching runs of 5-1 and 6-1 around a pair of points by SJC (3-7, 0-2 GLVC). The Miners finished with 16 kills in the set led by
Hayley Wright (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) with four while
Holly Tarvin (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs),
Gracey Moon (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) and
Allie Plunk (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) had three each.
S&T cruised in the second set building an early 7-1 lead and wouldn't look back leading by as many as 10 in the stanza. The Miners had a match-high attack percentage of .321 recording 12 kills against three errors in 28 attempts.
In the finale the two sides swapped the first six points before S&T began to pull away. It led by as many as nine in the frame before settling on the seven point margin. The Miners hit only .235 in the third set, but held the Pumas to an attack percentage of .030.
Wright and Tarvin led S&T with nine kills apiece.
Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) finished with seven kills while Moon and
Katie McDonald (Orland Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) had five each. Moon also finished the match with five service aces. Plunk recording another double-double finishing with 34 assists and 10 digs.
Cydney Denning (San Antonio, Texas/Brandeis ) had 10 digs as well.
Katherine Brown led Saint Joseph's with seven kills while Peyton McKenzie, Erin Hyland and Abby Puckett had five each. Megan Strum dished out 33 assists while Alyssa Guarnaccia had 10 digs.
The Miners go for their third straight win next Saturday when they travel to Evansville, Ind., to take on Southern Indiana beginning at 5 p.m.
