ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T second baseman Michael Lockett (O'Fallon, Mo./Timberland) has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District team for the 2013 season.

Lockett, a sophomore majoring in biological sciences, was selected among players from the NCAA Division II Midwest region, consisting of schools from the Great Lakes Valley Conference, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and some of the schools that will be a part of the newly forming Great Midwest Athletic Conference.  To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve with a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better.

For the 2013 season, Lockett has a .327 batting average with 27 runs batted in, the second-most on the squad.  He has a team-high 11 doubles and has one of the top on-base percentage marks of .389 to go along with a .413 slugging percentage.  In the field, he has committed only two errors in 181 chances.

One of the five infielders selected to the team -- of which eight of the 12 players were from GLVC institutions -- Lockett will be eligible for Academic All-America honors.  That team will be announced later this month.
