ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T will have seven representatives from its swimming team in competition at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, while are slated to begin March 6 in Birmingham, Ala., as part of the NCAA's Winter Sports Festival for Division II.
The seven Miners to qualify include two freshmen and two sophomores, with four of the seven qualifiers making their first-ever appearance at the national meet.
Seniors
Jacob Dole (Corbin, Ky./Country Day School) and
Andrew Schranck (Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) have qualified for the meet, as have junior
Matt Zieger (St. Joseph, Mo./Central), sophomores
Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) and
Aljaz Kerc (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Bezigrad) and freshmen
Danylo Mykhailov (Khankiv, Ukraine/Sport Collegue N.S.) and
Keith Sponsler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East).
The first day of competition on Wednesday, March 6 will have the Miners' 200-yard medley relay team of Schranck, Mykhailov, Kerc and Dole in action, as well as Mykhailov, Zieger, Sponsler and Dole in the 50-yard freestyle and Schranck in the 200-yard individual medley.
The next day, S&T's 200-freestyle relay team of Sponsler, Mykhailov, Kerc and Dole will compete as well as Goldfarb in the 400-yard individual medley, Zieger and Sponsler in the 200-yard freestyle and Schranck in the 100-yard butterfly.
Friday's competition will have Goldfarb in the 500-yard freestyle, Mykhailov and Schranck in the 100-yard backstroke, Schranck in the 200-butterfly and Kerc in the 100-yard breaststroke.
S&T's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Zieger, Mykhailov, Kerc and Dole will compete on the final day of the meet, while Kerc will also compete in two individual events, the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke. In addition, Dole, Mykhailov, Zieger, Sponsler and Kerc will compete in the 100-freestyle and Goldfarb and Kerc will do so in the 200-breaststroke on Saturday.
The Miners last had as many as seven competitors at a national meet in 2011, when they took eight to the meet and finished in ninth place overall.
