Miners hit road for first time with trip to Southwest Baptist

11/18/2013 9:13:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – After winning two of three at home to begin the 2013-14 season, Missouri S&T's men's basketball team heads to the road for the first time Tuesday night as it faces Southwest Baptist in a 7:30 p.m. contest in Bolivar, Mo.

The Miners outscored Robert Morris-Springfield 109-98 Saturday to improve to 2-1, posting their highest point total in a regulation time game in 10 seasons in the process.   Senior guard Bryce Foster (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) continued his hot start to the season with his second double-double in as many games, finishing with 26 points and a career-high 13 rebounds to lead the way.

Foster enters Tuesday's game with averages of 24 points and nine rebounds per game and is one of five Miners in double figures in the scoring column through the first three games of the year.  Nusrath Khan (Morton Grove, Ill./Maine East), who scored a career-best 20 points Saturday, is averaging 15.3 points a game and leads S&T with 13 steals, while Curtis Okafor (Kansas City, Mo./Bishop Miege) added 16 in the win over the Eagles to boost his seasonal average to 14 points a game.

Danylo Zuikov (Kiev, Ukraine/LaLumiere School) is averaging 11.5 points a game and Mudiaga Eruteya (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) is scoring 11 points per contest.

Southwest Baptist will be playing its fourth game of the year – all on its home court – and is 1-2 heading into Tuesday's matchup following a 97-70 loss last Tuesday to defending national champion Drury.  The Bearcats have three players scoring in double figures, led by Desi Barmore with an average of 16.3 points per game.

Rashaad Brown-Peterson is averaging 13.7 points a game and like Barmore, has scored at least 10 points in all three contests to date, while Preston Guiot has a team-high 21 assists to go with his 10.7 points a game.

SBU has relied quite a bit on the three-point shot as it is averaging 12.3 made treys a game and has attempted over 50 percent of its shots from beyond the arc.  The Bearcats made 18 three-pointers in their lone win of the year, a 96-89 victory over Arkansas Tech.

The Miners have won two of the three meetings from the Bearcats since the series resumed in 2010, including a 75-61 victory in Rolla last season behind 22 points from Eruteya.
