Miners seek second straight victory Wednesday evening

11/12/2013 6:42:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – An opportunity to reach 2-0 to open a season for the first time in three years is the carrot for Missouri S&T's men's basketball team on Wednesday night as it continues its early season homestand with a matchup against Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Game time is at 7 p.m. at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.

The Miners and Savage Storm both opened their seasons with wins over the past weekend, as the Miners defeated Westminster 103-83 and Southeastern dispatched Oklahoma Science & Arts 64-56.

S&T used a 25-4 run in the first half – which included 16 straight points in one stretch – to break open a close game and the Miners held a double figure lead for the balance of the contest.  Bryce Foster (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central), playing in his first game in nearly a year after missing much of last season due to an injury, scored 16 points in the opening half and finished with a career-high 28 on the night.

Mudiaga Eruteya (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) added 19 points and eight rebounds for S&T, while Nusrath Khan (Morton Grove, Ill./Maine East) recorded 18 points, six assists and eight steals, coming within one steal of the Miners' single game record.

Southeastern trailed for much of the first half of its opener against Oklahoma Science & Arts, but took the lead with just under 13 minutes to play and came away with the win behind 17 points from Tyler Smaller and 16 from Urald King, one of just three returning players to the Savage Storm roster from last year's 15-12 squad.

The Savage Storm shot 59.5 percent from the field in their win, but turned the ball over 23 times.  Defensively, they held Science & Arts to just 33.3 percent shooting from the floor.

Wednesday's game marks the first meeting between S&T and Southeastern since December 30, 2009, a 78-62 Miner victory in Austin, Texas.
