Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team opened its weekend road trip to the St. Louis area on a down note, as an early goal by Maryville University was enough to give the Saints a
1-0 victory over the Miners Friday afternoon.
The Saints, who came into the game having been outscored 17-3 on the season, got a goal from Lance Kohler in the fourth minute of play and that turned out to be enough. Kohler scored when he dribbled down the left side of the field and put a shot by S&T goalkeeper
Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) on the right side of the net just 3:17 into the game.
Despite being outshot 14-7 in the game, the Miners did have some opportunities as they had nine corner kicks. The best chance came a little over 20 minutes into the second half, when
Alex Reifschneider (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) headed one of those corner kicks off the goal post.
However, only two of the seven S&T shots were on net and both were turned away by Maryville goalie Josh Richter to allow the Saints to win for the first time in eight tries this season and knock off the Miners in St. Louis for the second time in three seasons.
Jackson made seven saves in goal for the Miners.
David Zdvorak (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill HS) had three of the seven S&T shots in the contest.
The Miners, 4-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the GLVC, will wrap up their weekend road trip Sunday when they face Missouri-St. Louis in a 2:30 p.m. game.
