Box Score (Kirksville, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Miner volleyball had its three match winning streak snapped on Friday night falling at 17
th ranked Truman State
3-0 (19-25, 17-25, 16-25). The Miners (10-9, 6-4 GLVC) struggled to get their offense going finishing the match with 22 kills while committing 20 errors.
The opening set was the tightest of the match featuring eight ties and six lead changes. It was tied 9-9 before the Bulldogs (15-5, 9-1 GLVC) scored six straight to take a 15-9 advantage. S&T would get as close as three on multiple occasions but were unable to get any closer than that. Truman finished the set with 13 kills compared to six for the Miners.
S&T scored the first point in the second set before the Bulldogs took control by scoring eight of the next nine points to open a six point lead. The Miners wouldn't get closer than five the rest of the stanza. Truman had an attack percentage of .258 (12k/4e/31ta) while holding S&T to a .091 (9k/6e/33ta) hitting percentage.
The third set began like the opening one as the score was tied at 6-6 before the Bulldogs scored six straight to take control. They led by as many as 13 points in the set before settling on the final margin of nine points.
The Miners finished the match with an attack percentage of .020 (22k/20e/100ta) and were led by
Hayley Wright (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) with five kills.
Shelby Wagner (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit) contributed four to the attack while
Allie Plunk (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) and
Holly Tarvin (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) had three kills each. Plunk distributed 12 assists while
Caitlin Brocker (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central ) had 14 digs.
Truman had an attack percentage of .190 (38k/18e/105ta) and was led by Ali Patterson and Allie Brak with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Meghan Zimmerman dished out 32 assists and Abby Moser had 16 digs.
S&T is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Quincy, Ill., for a matchup with the Quincy Hawks beginning at 3 p.m.
