9/23/2012 4:35:00 PM

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After being shut out on Friday night at Quincy and playing to scoreless ties against Illinois Springfield in each of the last two seasons, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team wasted little time erasing those recent memories Sunday afternoon.

Peter Haw (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West ) scored the fastest goal in the history of the Miner program – just 11 seconds into the contest – to spark the Miners to a 4-0 victory over the Prairie Stars, giving S&T its first road victory in Great Lakes Valley Conference play this season.

Off the opening klckoff, Haw took a pass from Peter Vaccaro (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West ) and hit a shot past UIS goalkeeper Jack Turanchik to give the Miners the early advantage.  The Miners controlled play for much of the first half after the early goal, holding the Prairie Stars without a shot until the final five minutes of the period.

S&T added to its lead with just 2:11 remaining in the first half, as Timmy Kenny (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) scored his third goal of the year off an assist from Kyle Schraier (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College ).

Vaccaro got his second assist of the afternoon on the Miners' third goal, scored by Jervis Atagana (Columbia, Mo./Hickman ) at the 74:37 mark, then Brian Seawright (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) tallied his first goal of the year with nearly four minutes to play from Diego Robayo (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish).

Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) got the start in goal for the Miners Sunday and made three saves to earn his second shutout of the year.  S&T finished the game with an 18-4 advantage in shots over UIS (2-6, 1-5 GLVC) and also had three corner kicks to two for the Prairie Stars.

The Miners (4-3-1, 3-3 GLVC) return home for a pair of games this weekend, beginning with a Friday night clash against Missouri-St. Louis at 7:30 p.m. at the S&T Soccer Field.
