Box Score
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri S&T's Zack Gronek (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) tied the school's single season win record Saturday by recording his 10th win of the year in the Miners' 6-3 opening game win in a doubleheader at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

The second game of the twinbill was canceled after a storm came through the St. Louis area between games and the final two games of the series will be played Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. – a start time moved up two hours due to threats of rain again on Sunday.

S&T jumped on top Saturday in the opening inning, getting a leadoff walk from Will McCord (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman HS) and a one-out double by Lee Voth-Gaeddert (Hesston, Kan./Hesston HS) – extending his hitting streak to 14 games in the process – to grab the advantage.  With two outs, Josh Caffrey (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington HS) doubled into the gap in right center to score Voth-Gaeddert and give the Miners an early 2-0 lead.

Andy Hall (Rolla, Mo./Rolla HS) belted a two-run homer in the third after Voth-Gaeddert singled to start the inning to double the Miner advantage before UMSL got its first run off Gronek in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back doubles by John Pilackas and Charlie Mohr.

The Miners were able to add to their lead in the eighth with two unearned runs.  With one out, Reed Brown (Rogers, Ark./Heritage) singled and with two outs, Jake Brower (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland) reached on an error to keep the inning alive.  Another Triton error, this one on a ball hit by Clint Wobbe (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS), loaded the bases and McCord followed with a two-run single to score Brown and Brower.

UMSL got one run off Gronek in the eighth on a triple by Pilackas and a hit by Mohr, then threatened again in the ninth. A one-out hit by pinch-hitter Drew Standefer and another hit that followed by Lucas Matecki put two runners on base, then Trevor Nathanson singled home Standefer with two outs to bring the tying run to the plate.

Harry Dunsford (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) took over for Gronek after the Nathanson hit and got the only batter he faced -- Pilackas -- to fly out to center to pick up his 13th save of the season.

The Tritons (24-18, 16-13 GLVC) outhit the Miners 12-11 in the game, as S&T got three hits apiece from McCord and Voth-Gaeddert.

Gronek struck out four in his 8 2/3 innings of work to improve his record to 10-1 on the year.

With the win, the Miners (28-11, 17-8 GLVC) were assured of finishing the day in first place in the GLVC West.  Rockhurst, whom the Miners led by percentage points at the start of play Saturday, dropped the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Quincy and Drury, who was one game behind S&T, had a late afternoon twinbill at Maryville and can only get to within one-half game with a sweep.
