Julie Meyer scored a career-high 26 points in the loss on Thursday

Lady Miners fall at Drury 65-64 in OT on last second shot.

Box Score (Springfield, Mo.) – Consuelo Owen's runner as time expired sent the Missouri S&T Lady Miners to a crushing 65-64 defeat in overtime at Drury on Thursday evening. S&T rallied from deficit's of 14 points in the second half and five points in the extra frame.

The Lady Miners (18-8, 12-6 GLVC) scored six straight points rallying from a 63-58 deficit to take a 64-63 lead on a pair of free throws by Toni Knar (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) with 0:05 left. Owens took the inbounds pass and went the length of the floor and hit a seven-footer at the gun.

S&T took the first lead in overtime on a layup from Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) and then had two straight opportunities to extend the lead but came up empty.

Drury (20-6, 15-3 GLVC) answered back getting five straight points from Bethanie Funderburk to take the lead.

S&T struggled all night from downtown going just 1-for-16.

Both squads got off to an exceptional start shooting the ball as the Lady Miners made 10 of their first 12 attempts en route to taking a 22-16 lead 10 minutes into the contest.

The Lady Panthers weren't much worse making six of the their first seven and were kept largely in the game due to the shooting of Funderburk who made her first four shots to keep Drury within striking distance.

Over the next four minutes S&T began to go cold from the floor missing six of their next eight attempts allowing the Lady Panthers to go on an 8-0 to regain the lead.

The Lady Miners though regained a pair of two-point advantages but couldn't hold them as Drury kept answering. The Lady
Panthers took the lead into the break thanks to a four point play with 1:40 to play. Abby Bracker gave Drury the lead with a jumper and was fouled on the play. She missed the free throw but the Lady Panthers were able to keep the play alive and Sanayika Shields scored on a putback to make it 32-28.

S&T closed to within 32-29 on a free throw by Hailee Parks (Sullivan, Mo./Sullivan) and had a chance to get closer in the final minute but a turnover and a missed layup at the buzzer ended the half.

The Lady Miners shot 54 percent (13-for-24) in the half but finished just 3-for-12 after the hot start. They also turned it over 10 times resulting in 11 points for Drury.

Meyer, Parks and Kyesha Hall (Dodson, La./) combined to score 21 of the 29 points for S&T.

The Lady Panthers were 13-of-32 (41 percent) from the field in the opening stanza and were 3-for-8 from downtown. Drury held an 18-13 advantage on the glass including 8-1 on the offensive end.

Funderburk led all scorers with 13 points while Bracker dropped in seven more.

The Lady Miners regained the lead on three different occasions early in the second half but were never able to extend the lead.

Drury regained the lead on a pair of free throws by Funderburk after a technical foul was called on Meyer.

S&T got back within 41-40 after Parks went 1-for-2 at the line, but Funderburk scored four of the next six points giving the Lady Panthers a 47-40 lead with 10:32 to play.

Drury led 54-40 on a layup by Bracker with 7:18 to play.

From that point the Lady Miners outscored them 16-2 and eventually tied the game on a putback by Parks with 0:27 left.

The Lady Panthers had a chance at the final shot but Kassie Walker turned it over with 0:02 left.

Meyer's three-quarter shot at the buzzer was no good.

S&T finished the contest shooting 47 percent (28-for-60) from the floor but were just 64 percent (7-for-11) at the foul line and were outrebounded by a 40-to-38 margin.

Meyer scored a career-high 26 points on a career-high 12 field goals made. Parks had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Hall and Courtney Kemp (Fredricktown, Mo./Fredricktown) added eight apiece.

Drury was 25-of-66 (38 percent) from the floor and were 6-for-18 (33 percent) from downtown.

Funderburk led all scorers with 30 points. Bracker dropped in 13.

The Lady Miners will host Lewis in the opening round of the 2012 Scheels GLVC Tournament on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
